Forrest, Hudson and I were invited to visit and interview the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) Food Club. As I sat through the meeting, I was surprised to find out that some college students are going hungry. One of the reasons for this is because sometimes their classes are at the same time the meal is served in the cafeteria. Because of this, the UMM Food Club has set up a table for these students to get free food that they need. I also learned that they do other things to help address food insecurity. They host community dinners, and they have a garden on the campus. This summer they will be looking for volunteers to help in their garden.
